Job description

The successful candidate will manage and program UI-7, the cable-TV service of the University of Illinois. This 11-year-old PEG (Public, Educational, and Governmental Access) channel is governed by the College of Media and seen in University offices and residence halls and throughout East-Central Illinois on Comcast cable. The coordinator will serve as a liaison to all campus units to raise awareness of the channel and to acquire appropriate unit-funded and -produced programming to run on the channel. He or she will be solely responsible for maintaining and programming the Digital Video Broadcast Server used to play out all programming 24/7. The coordinator will also be expected to develop new initiatives to strengthen the Public Engagement role of the channel to build and spread the Illinois brand. The applicant will publicize the channel; maintain written, electronic, and Web-based program guides; and respond to viewer queries. He or she will represent the University before the Champaign-Urbana Cable Television & Telecommunications Commission. The coordinator will perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum education and work experience

A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or related field

Skills desired
  • Familiarity with broadcast operations
  • Familiarity with the Urbana campus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of videotape and file-based video formats
  • Intermediate skills in word processing, Web design and database management
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

This is a continuous, full-time, 12-month position with standard university benefits. Starting salary is $40,000 annually.
