University of Illinois Communications Collaboration Conference
18 March 2005 - Levis Faculty Center, Urbana
The UICC is composed of graduate students interested in communications research from the campuses of the university of Illinois. The conference is designed to bring together communications students in an academic forum where students can showcase their research and interact with collegues and faculty from the university's campuses.
This year the conference will be held Friday, March 18, 2005 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The day long conference will include presentations from faculty and students on their current research as well as time to socialize. The keynote speaker will be Larry Grossberg (see bio below).

Lawrence Grossberg
Lawrence Grossberg is the Morris Davis Distinguished Professor of Communication Studies and Cultural Studies, and the Director of the University Program in Cultural Studies, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is an internationally renowned scholar of cultural studies and popular culture, and the co-editor of the international journal Cultural Studies. He has authored or edited (alone or with others) 20 books, and published close to 200 essays.His work has been translated into ten other languages, and he has lectured all over the world. He has won the highest awards for both scholarship and mentorship from both the National Communication Association, and the International Communication Association.
His books include It's a Sin: Essays on Postmodernism, Politics and Culture (1988); We Gotta Get Out Of This Place: Popular Conservatism and Postmodern Culture (1992); Dancing in Spite of Myself: Essays in Popular Culture (1997); Bringing It All Back Home: Essays in Cultural Studies (1997); and MediaMaking (1998). He is co-editor of several books--including Cultural Studies (1991), Sound and Vision (1993) and The Audience and its Landscapes(1996)--as well as the journal Cultural Studies.

directions from Chicago directly to Levis.
All events during the conference will be in the Levis Center. After the conference concludes we will move to Crane Alley, a local bar in downtown Urbana, for a social hour (or two). Crane Alley has quite a good food menu for those who will want to eat at this point.
