ICR Website Tutorial, Friday March 11 1pm Peterson Conference room All ICR students and faculty welcome
by:
Dear ICR Faculty and students,
The new and improved ICR website is in full swing (http://www.comm.uiuc.edu/icr/)!
We strongly encourage you to visit the site to learn about what's up, as well as to share your news and events. The ICR web site is yours to use in any number of ways to let colleagues know about: upcoming lectures of interest, recent awards and honors, announcements of new books or articles, and more. This is the place to showcase ICR's activities to alumni, prospective students and faculty, other communications scholars, and the UIUC community. It is also a terrific vehicle for internal communication.
Any of the following types of information can be uploaded to the site:
Interviews and book reviews
Awards
News of new funding
Editorials
New Classes being offered and their course description
Web publishing of research findings, chapters, etc.
New Publications
Conferences, ventures, and collaborations
Descriptions of projects new and ongoing
You name it
A number of ICR faculty and students are already using the website to publicize their activities and facilitate research. Norm Denzin had the College of Communications' IRB documents and instructions placed on the website. Anhgy Valdivia added the upcoming visit of scholar Jacqueline Bobo to the NEWS and EVENTS columns of the homepage to both promote the visit and entice additional funding for it. Paula Treichler and Amy Aidman established a Cultural Policy Resource Hub. Coordinating the College of Communications' Brown Bag Talks, Patrick Vargas announced the entire series for the semester on the homepage via the events listing. Information about two upcoming conferences (both to be held at UI in May), the "First International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry" and "Can Freedom of the Press Survive Media Consolidation", will also be featured on the ICR website. The famous ICR Occasional Papers will soon be available electronically on the website.
All ICR Faculty and Students have access to web space and have opportunity to create their own pages. To promote this feature Roswell Quinn will be giving a tutorial on how to do so, as well as a tour of the website as whole.
The next web tour/tutorial will take place: March 11 at 1:15 in the Peterson Conference Room-rm. 231 (after the faculty meeting).
To participate, web publish, or brainstorm ideas for the website and
how you can use it simply email Roswell Quinn at rquinn1@uiuc.edu.
We hope you will take advantage of this new interactive resource soon.
Sincerely,
Bruce Williams
