Using Regional Mechanisms to Combat Discrimination: How Afro-Latinos are using the InterAmerican Human Rights System and the Organization of American States to Promote Social Change, a program from Latino/Latina Stuies. This event will take place Tuesday February 8th from 4-6pm in 213 Gregg Hall.

As the Global Rights Latin America Coordinator, Zakiya Carr-Johnson acts as a bridge for our work in racial discrimination in the Americas. She joined Global Rights in September 2002. From 1999 to 2002, she worked as international Relations and Youth Advisor at Geled Instituto da Mulher Negra, a Brazilian NGO that focuses on Black women, racism and gender issues and human rights in Brazil and abroad. Ms. Carr Johnson currently acts as representative for the Americas in the International Youth Network created at the World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa and acts as chair of the Afro-Colombian Working Group in Washington, DC.
