Research/Creative Endeavor
Nelson’s research can be classified into two areas: (a) the reciprocal relationships among cultural values, message content and processing and consumer behavior; and (b) “new hidden persuaders” – non-traditional advertising commercial content (e.g., product placements, commercial content in news) and its influence on audience cognitions, attitudes and behaviors. These areas are integrated in recent projects that explore global commercial content within indigenous cultural artifacts (e.g., films) and that gauge audience persuasion knowledge (literacy), attitudes and responses.
